GCam for the Poco F4

GCam Poco F4The Xiaomi Poco F4 / Redmi K40S is an affordable phone with interesting specs released in 2022. It’s a small upgrade over the Poco F3 and includes some changes in the camera department, but sadly they’re still a bit weak there, especially when it comes to the extra cameras.. They are a bit weak in the camera department, but Google Camera can help a lot in this regard. Compared with the stock camera, you get:

  • More detailed photos, especially from the main 64MP back camera.
  • Improved details and in low light/indoors.
  • Super resolution and upscaling on some GCam mods.
  • Better quality from the front facing camera, without excessive skin smoothing.
  • Features like Night Sight, Astrophotography, Portrait mode, Timelapse, etc.

On this page we’ll try to create a list of stable GCam mods for the Poco F4 / Redmi K40S. These might not be the latest, but they work.

Download GCam:

  • If in doubt, just use the first apk listed below.
  • To avoid issues when viewing pictures from inside GCam, install the Google Photos app (no need to login).
  • If you have never installed GCam and need help, watch this video.

GCam 8.4 by Hasli:

⚠️ After installing the app, download one of the configurations for this phone (how load config files). The config folder for this version is LMC8.4 in the root of your storage.

GCam 8.1 by BSG:

More than one apk is available. The first or second one should work fine.

⚠️ After installing the app, download one of the configurations for this phone (how load config files).

GCam 8.1 by Wichaya:

More than one apk is available. The first or second one should work fine.

⚠️ After installing the app, download one of the configurations for this phone (how load config files).

More information:

Configs created for the more popular Pocophone F3 might work on the F4, but you’ll need to test them. Config files created with custom ROMs might not work well on the stock ROM (and vice versa) because the ID of each camera might change between ROMs.

As it happens with most mods, video might be better on the stock camera app, especially when it comes to video stabilization and high speed video. Video and sound bitrate is better on GCam mods though, so it’s a trade-off.

If you’re looking for photos with better quality, use HDR+ Enhanced. This feature is slower than normal HDR+ On or even “HDR net” (only available on some GCam apks), but your photos will have a better dynamic range and detail. If you like this feature, but want it to be fast, set GCam to use a lower number of frames used by it (usually available inside the settings menus).

As you may have noticed, there’s a big drop in quality between the main camera and the secondary wide and macro cameras. While some configs manage to improve quality, sometimes it’s better to use the main camera (if possible). For macro, sometimes it’s better to use the wide camera with a bit of zoom to get a file with better details.

Since Xiaomi doesn’t allow access to the full sensor resolution, GCam – like all 3rd party camera apps – can only get the binned resolution. On the main 64MP sensor that means 12MP (same as the default resolution on the stock camera app).
