Both the 9 and 9 Pro feature capable sensors, with the 48MP Sony IMX789 sensor used for the main camera and the 50MP Sony IMX766 used for the wide camera. The 9R uses the popular Sony IMX586 also used by the OP8\/8T\/Nord.<\/p>\n<p>While these devices already have nice cameras, a GCam port will give you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Better low light \/ indoors performance.<\/li>\n<li>Astrophotography and automatic night sight.<\/li>\n<li>More accurate white balance, depending on your settings.<\/li>\n<li>Features like Portrait mode, Timelapse, Panorama.<\/li>\n<li>Google&#8217;s well known HDR+ processing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Magisk \/ root is NOT required and overall support is good. This often can be bypassed by using an apk file with a specific &#8220;package name&#8221; (linked above) or by using a custom ROM.<\/p>\n<p>Video quality is acceptable with GCam when using the correct settings, however, video stabilisation is often superior on the stock OnePlus camera.<\/p>\n<p>Just like the stock camera does by default, GCam saves 12MP photos. Full resolution may be available on some versions, but sadly OnePlus limits most apps to the &#8220;binned&#8221; resolution of the sensor (&lt;resolution&gt; divided by 4). For example, a 48MP sensor will output 12MP files.<\/p>\n<p>While the name is similar, the OnePlus 9 \/ 9 Pro and the 9R are in different categories, which the first two being clearly superior.
