GCam for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro and 9S

Redmi Note 9 Pro 9S GCamThe Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro (Global) and the Redmi Note 9S (Global) / Note 9 Pro (indian variant) are affordable phones with interesting specs. They are a bit weak in the camera department, but Google Camera can help in this regard. Compared with the stock camera, you get:

  • Detailed photos, specially from the main back/front cameras.
  • Better dynamic range, specially in hard conditions.
  • Improved performance in low light/indoors.
  • Better quality from the front facing camera.

On top of all this, you also get many GCam features like Night Mode, Astrophotography, Portrait Mode, and so on.

On this page, you’ll find stable Google Camera apks for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro, 9 Pro Max, and 9 S.

Download GCam:

Notes:

  • If in doubt, simply download the first .apk file listed below.
  • The Google Photos app is recommended (no need to login) as GCam uses it as the default gallery app.
Google Camera 8.x (Stable, Android 10+) »

GCam 8.1 by BSG:

All of the available .apk files should work, but if you don’t know what they’re for, just download the first one to keep things simple.

⚠️ After installing the app, download one of the configurations for this phone (how load config files).
Google Camera 7.x (Stable, Android 9+) »

GCam 7.4 by tigr:

GCam 7.4 with lots of features. By tigr, based on Nikita’s version.

⚠️ After installing the app, download one of the configurations for this phone (how load config files).

GCam 7.3 by Wichaya:

Simple and stable. All cameras supported. Slow motion and video stabilization supported.

⚠️ After installing the app, download one of the configurations for this phone (how load config files).

Limitations:

  • Video recording doesn’t work on the secondary cameras. Only works on the main camera.
  • Video stabilisation and slow motion might be superior on the stock camera.
  • This device uses quad-bayer sensors on some of the cameras, so pixel binning is used. If the main camera is 64MP, GCam’s picture will be 16MP (64 divided by 4). If it’s 48MP, the image will be 12MP.

Info about different variants:

Due to confusing name by Xiaomi, there are different variants that share the same/similar names and the same/similar hardware:

  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro (Global/EU). Codenamed Joyeuse. It has a 64mp main back camera.
  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro (Indian variant). Codenamed Curtana. It has an inferior 48mp main back camera (compared to the Global/EU variant).
  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S (Global). Codenamed Curtana. It’s the same phone as the Note 9 Pro, indian variant. Features a 48MP rear camera.
  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro Max (Indian variant). Codenamed Excalibur. 64MP rear camera sensor, same as the Note 9 Pro Global/EU variant, but without NFC.

And there’s also the Redmi Note 9, codenamed Merlin, which has very limited GCam support because it uses a MediaTek Helio G85 processor/SoC. All the phones listed above are powered by a Snapdragon 720G, so Google Camera works fairly well.
